Singorama Review

February 19th, 2011 | Author:

Now in its 2nd revision, Singorama was co-developed by Emily Mander and a team of music professionals from down under. It has quickly become one of the most popular downloadable singing courses currently available on the internet and is appropriate for most beginners as well as intermediate students.

Singorama is a complete singing course that will most assuredly improve the way you sing. It will keep you learning for quite some time, and you’ll always have the material available for reference. Like most Singing courses, it’s largely audio-centric but also contains plenty of textual information to compliment the course.

Singorama provides a cost-effective way to learn to sing like the pros from the comfort of your own home. You’ll gain access to professional instruction without the expense or inconvenience of private voice lessons.

You’ll find plenty of high-quality content in the Singorama singing course. Here we’ll break down the various parts of the lessons below.

When compared to private lessons or higher priced singing courses Singorama impresses with exceptional value.

The Singorama singing course is organized by lessons, which each focusing on a particular topic from how to avoid negative habits, harmonizing, overcoming stage fright and performance anxiety, correct breathing techniques, posture, music theory, and so much more. Once you’ve got down the basics, you’ll also learn how to develop your own “stage presence”, discover how to make each song “your own” and learn to sing with feeling and expression.  The audio lessons are sequentially numbered and build on each other in natural succession.

The course is full of great exercises to help you extend your vocal range, strengthen your voice, practice intervals, and warm-up properly.

Bonuses! Those who are interested in songwriting will be very pleased to know that there’s almost 3 additional hours of a songwriting mini-course along with 2 accompanying eBooks, Song Writing Creativity (20 pages) and Superior Songwriting (105 pages). This is awesome for those who want to eventually be able to perform their own original compositions.

Original Songs to Sing along with too! Singorama comes with three (3) original Singorama songs to sing along with. Each song includes three tracks. The first is the full band version, the second is the instrument-only version, and the third is the vocals-only version. They are all professionally recorded and sound quite good. It would have been nice if they had included lyrics for the songs however.

Though primarily an audio curriculum, Singorama contains more reading content than most of the singing courses we’ve reviewed on this website. There are two multimedia eBooks, one for beginners and one that covers more advanced material. All musical examples referenced in the books are hotlinked to the audio files so you can easily play them from right within the eBook, a great feature that makes it much easier to go through.

More Bonuses! There are also two bonus eBooks: Guide to reading music (32 pages), and Learning Techniques for Singing (15 pages). The reading music guide quickly brings you up to speed on how to read music and enlightens you on many types of musical notation. Learning Techniques for Singing shows you how to properly go about the learning process. We recommend you read this early on in your lessons as it contains some very helpful advice.

Software Package:

Following is a list of the software titles included with Singorama as bonuses. PC and Macintosh versions are available for download within the member’s area. When installing the software, you only have to run one installer and all the programs will be added to your computer.

* Perfect Your Pitch – A great little tool that shows you a sequence of notes for you to identify based on the sound they make. It only took a little practice before I saw improvement in my ability to match the notes to the pitches they made.

* Singorama Mini Recording Studio – While not exactly full-featured recording software, the Singorama Mini Recording Studio makes a nice bonus. Obviously it allows you to record your voice (no editing tools available), and has several other handy functions. It features a virtual piano that can use to keep yourself in tune while you sing, or you can have it play from a list of common scales. It doesn’t do much more than that, but still if your computer doesn’t have sound-recording software built-in, the Singorama Mini Recording Studio works ok.

* Jayde Musica Pro – A music theory game that teaches you how to read music and even learn to recognize notes by ear! It’s a pretty cool game, though it works best to break up your voice lesson routine.

* Singorama Metronome – This is pretty much your standard metronome software. You can adjust the speed to whatever you like, but you’re limited to one sound type.

Singorama is not without its shortcomings. When downloading the course, you’ll find that it’s extremely large (over 1GB of content!). People with slow internet connections might find it a major annoyance to download everything. Another grievance we have is that even for those that have hi-speed connections, it can be time-consuming to download the entire course, as most of the files have to be downloaded individually.

You can submit email support tickets should you have any difficulty accessing or downloading your software.  Be sure to check out their frequently asked questions first though.
